Update for International students with Visa Requirements – Visa Prolongation in Summer 2020
We would like to share the latest updates posted by the Czech Interior Ministry on visa/residence permit prolongation process after the termination of the State of Emergency in the CR.
ATTENTION: All the international students are required to keep us fully informed of:
- their current place of stay (in CR or out of CR) and possible travel plans for summer
- their current visa/residence permit status
- provide us with a picture of their current or previous visa/residence permit
- in the event you have not updated us yet, please do so asap sending an email to email@example.com
If your long-stay visa/residence permit expires during summer, please keep in mind that you have to apply for its extension in CR before the date of its expiry. You may need to consider one of the following 4 options:
1. If you are in the CR currently and do not plan to leave the CR for summer
You can book a visa/residence permit prolongation appointment at: https://frs.gov.cz/
In the event you cannot find a free slot for the appointment online, you can send the application with all the documents, copy of your passport (all pages) and revenue stamps of CZK 2,500 by registered post to OAMP Hladkov (address: OAMP, Hladkov 682/9, 169 00 Praha 6).
IMPORTANT for holders of long-stay visa (sticker in passport): you may only mail your applications in by July 16th, after that date you have to submit applications in person!

If you have the application for your visa/residence permit prolongation submitted/in process/pending, do not forget to arrange a bridge visa before you depart from the CR. For obtaining the bridge visa, you have to schedule an appointment at OAMP Hladkov or other OAMP offices depending on your residence address (currently all the offices require scheduled appointments!).
3. If you have already been out of the CR and did not apply for extension before your departure
You should make an appointment online (at https://frs.gov.cz/) for August and come back to Prague to apply in person BEFORE your current visa/residence permit expires.
Alternatively (if you are unable to find a free slot for personal appointment), you can send the application with all the documents and revenue stamps by registered post to OAMP Hladkov as soon as you return to CR (BEFORE your current visa/residence permit expires).
After the termination of the Emergency State in CR on May 17, you have 60 days to finish the process of issuing or picking-up your new biometric card
As you most probably do not have a valid bridge visa, you will need to contact the Czech Embassy in your country that will provide you with a new bridge (re-entry) visa as soon as they resume their duties (depending on the situation in your country)
If you decide to come back before July 16 to finish the pending prolongation process (biometry or the new card pick-up), please let us know so that we can schedule an appointment directly with the Ministry (for biometry and the card pick-up only phone arrangements are possible)
If you are unable to come back before July 16 to finish the pending process, you can ask the Ministry of Interior for extension of the deadline. The request must be justified and submitted officially in writing. In such a case, it is necessary that you inform us!
For official information on re-entry conditions to CR (medical tests, quarantine etc.), we recommend to follow the Ministry´s website https://www.mvcr.cz/mvcren/article/coronavirus-information-of-moi.aspx.
Please feel free to get back to the International/Student Affairs Office with any questions you may have.
Thank you for your cooperation!
